Where a degree from abroad gets checked.

Each of these UK processes sets its own rules, so check which one applies before you order.

University applications through UCAS

UCAS recommends uploading an officially translated copy next to any certificate or transcript not in English. It counts a translation as official when the awarding body or a recognised, qualified translator produces it, with a signed confirmation of accuracy and the translator's credentials. Self-translations are not accepted.

Visa checks through Ecctis

A degree taught in English outside the UK can prove your English for a Skilled Worker visa once Ecctis confirms it matches a UK bachelor's degree or higher. Ecctis asks for the final certificate, an official transcript, a Medium of Instruction letter and certified translations of anything not in English.

Jobs and professional registration

A UK ENIC Statement of Comparability shows employers and professional bodies how an overseas qualification compares with UK education. It also needs certified translations, though some languages can use its Translation Waiver Service.

Transcripts and diplomas are translated in the same certified format as the degree certificate itself.

What we check on a degree certificate.

The points where a degree translation needs the most care.

  • Your name. For Arabic, Cyrillic, Chinese and other scripts, give us your passport spelling so both documents match.
  • The degree title, translated as awarded, not swapped for a UK label. Judging the UK level is for Ecctis or UK ENIC.
  • Grades on their own scale. A 17 out of 20 stays 17 out of 20, with any printed grading key translated.
  • Every transcript row: modules, credit hours or ECTS credits, semesters and totals, laid out as in the original.
  • Seals, stamps and signatures, each described in brackets. Ecctis asks for transcripts that are signed, stamped and dated.
  • The reverse side. Registration numbers, ministry stamps or attestation text on the back are translated too.
  • A name change since graduation. Ecctis and UK ENIC ask for proof, such as a marriage certificate, which may need its own translation.

Built for admissions teams and caseworkers.

Our certified translations are accepted by universities and the Home Office, and by UK courts, HMRC and banks. Each degree translation comes with a signed Statement of Truth and a certification letter showing the translator's credentials.

Should a UK authority reject your degree translation, we revise it free of charge or refund you in full.

From certificate to certified PDF.

  1. 01

    Upload the certificate and transcript

Upload a clear photo or scan of every page on the quote form, including the back of any page with stamps or writing.

  2. 02

Check the price for your pages

The instant quote shows the full price before you pay. A long transcript costs more than a single certificate, because the price follows the length.

  3. 03

    Attach it to your application

You receive a signed, dated PDF by email, ready to upload to UCAS, Ecctis or UK ENIC. Weekday orders before 12:00 UK time can get a same-day certified PDF.

Before you order.

Do I need the transcript translated as well as the degree?

Usually. Ecctis and UK ENIC both ask for an official transcript alongside the final certificate, and UCAS recommends translating transcripts as well as certificates. Transcripts get the same certified format as the degree.

Will the translation turn my grades into a UK class, like a 2:1?

No. A certified translation reports grades exactly as your university awarded them. UK ENIC's Statement of Comparability compares the level of a qualification but does not comment on grades.

My degree is in Arabic, French or Spanish. Does UK ENIC need a translation?

Possibly not. UK ENIC's Translation Waiver Service accepts qualifications in the original language for Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish at no charge, and for Catalan, German, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Romanian and Ukrainian for an extra fee, or free when you order the Fast Track Service. The waiver covers only the Statement of Comparability, so an Ecctis visa check still asks for certified translations.

I am registering with a UK health or care regulator. Anything to check first?

Yes, read the regulator's own translation rules before you order. The HCPC, for example, says translations for its international route must be done by an official translator and certified. If you are unsure whether our format fits, call 0800 193 8888 first.

Is a photo of my certificate good enough?

Yes: a clear photo or scan showing all four corners and every stamp. Keep the original safe, as Ecctis and UK ENIC also ask for clear colour photographs of the documents themselves.
